aislingetmaya asked: Hello! I am doing research for a book I am writing that is set around the Edwardian period, and I had rearranged American history (in short, I kept the Radical Republicans of post-Civil War from splitting). I was wondering if you knew of any Edwardian-era (or, in America, the 'Gilded Age') luminaries that I could possibly write about. I've already thrown in Theodore Roosevelt and...

Anonymous asked: Erwin Rommel was not a Nazi, i.e. never a member of the Nazi Party and very probably an extension of the July 1944 plot to kill Hitler, which led to his forced suicide; you may want to consider that in your tagging. I know the 'Nazi' tag is an issue that's been flogged a lot on this blog, but as someone doing their PhD dissertation on Rommel, I feel I have to say I'm...

“The events at Pichincha have brought about the occupation of this city [Quito]...”
– This was from the wikipedia article on the Battle of Pichincha; it is the only mention of Abdon Calderon Garaycoa on the website. Abdon Calderon was a badass of epic proportions, as you can tell from the quote—he suffered horrific wounds in an attempt to keep the flag of Gran Colombia safe...

we-are-revolting asked: Someone's likely already pointed this out, but I will again. With regards to the post about Evelyn Waugh, it was not the character who was named Aloysius. The character named Sebastian in Brideshead Revisited carried a teddy bear, and it was the teddy bear who was named Aloysius. If that was in the post, and I misread it, I'm extremely sorry. Thanks!
