Publius Ovidius Naso is not your average ancient Roman poet. In his spare time he wrote about love and the constantly changing nature of things. Exiled for a ‘mistake and a poem’ Ovid managed to aggravate Augustus by deliberately subverting the idealised Roman morality. Excluding his massive nose, I find it pretty difficult to not love this man, primarily for his beautiful way with words but also because he ‘stuck it to the man.’ <3
