I was so glad to see one of the Filipino heroes to be submitted on here but another came into mind that’s as worthy.
Dr. Jose Rizal (1861-1896); the Philippines’ National hero. Rizal was a man with incredible intellectual power. He graduated at the age of 16 with the highest honors, completed 2 doctorates and can converse in 10 different languages. Rizal was responsible for opening the eyes of Filipinos and see the truth behind the spanish colonial system. He did this through his novels, newspaper articles and such. The spaniards saw him as an enemy of the state and was exiled for four years in Dapitan where he met his one true love, Josephine Bracken. As the Philippine Revolution broke out he was captured and tried by court martial. Charged with rebellion, conspiracy and sedition he was given the death sentence despite the lack of evidence. Hours before his execution by firing squad, he married Josephine. He died on December 30, 1896; he was 35 years old.
