Meet Nefertiti- one of the most famous Egyptian Queens after Cleopatra. She was the Great Royal Wife to Akhenaten, the Pharaoh who famously converted Egypt to the monotheistic worship of Aten. It is believed that she had at least six daughters- no small feat considering that she lived between 1370 and 1330 BC. Her bust (seen above) is one of the most famous works of Ancient Egyptian art, and made her known long after her death as one of the most beautiful women in history. Even her name is thought to mean ‘beautiful woman’.
She wasn’t just a pretty face though; during her life she was one of the most powerful women in all of Egyptian history. She is thought to have been a co-regent and may even have ruled in her own right after Akhenaten’s death. After their reign Nefertiti and her husband were all but wiped from history, probably due to their religious reform.
Meet Nefertiti- beautiful, powerful, mysterious…and my history crush.
