Not sure if this man has been submitted yet… especially since I’m still kinda new to this tumblr and have not gone through all 150+ pages of it yet. :I
Suleiman the Magnificent, once a powerful, fantastic sultan, at least from what I’ve read. And to be honest, if it weren’t for Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, he wouldn’t be one of my history crushes.
Really great man. He expanded the Ottoman empire. He was the longest reigning sultan. Plus he was quite the poet and a really nice guy.
He even fell in love with a harem girl and married her… yeah, not exactly being traditional there, Suleiman, BUT HEY THEIR LOVE WAS BEAUTIFUL.
Here’s a poem he wrote to her under his pen name, Muhibbi.
"Throne of my lonely niche, my wealth, my love, my moonlight.
My most sincere friend, my confidant, my very existence, my Sultan, my one and only love.
The most beautiful among the beautiful…
My springtime, my merry faced love, my daytime, my sweetheart, laughing leaf…
My plants, my sweet, my rose, the one only who does not distress me in this world…
My Constantinople, my Caraman, the earth of my Anatolia
My Badakhshan, my Baghdad and Khorasan
My woman of the beautiful hair, my love of the slanted brow, my love of eyes full of mischief…
I’ll sing your praises always
I, lover of the tormented heart, Muhibbi of the eyes full of tears, I am happy.”
And to those of you who are unfamiliar with Assassin’s Creed, here’s the younger Suleiman from Revelations (he’s seventeen here).
