Anna Margareta von Haugwitz (1622-1673) was a German noblewoman. She married the Swedish count Carl Gustav Wrangel at the age of 18 after a month-long engagement. Considering that they married despite his father’s disapproval and that Wrangel happily married her despite that she was completely penniless and socially his inferior, it seems like they married out of love. Anna Margareta followed her husband on all his campaigns during the Thirty Years War, and most of their eleven children were born in military camps. Only one of their children survived into adulthood. Perhaps she’s not a great feminist hero, but I find her story moving, and among all those cold, arranged marriages, her marriage stands out as a love story. Also, she was perfectly gorgeous.
