How about Tȟatȟáŋka Waŋžíla also called One Bull or Henry Oscar One Bull?  He was a Lakota Sioux man, the nephew and adopted son of Sitting Bull, a well-respected as a leader in his community, and he wore Sitting Bull’s shield into the Battle of the Little Bighorn (where he was first sent by Sitting Bull to attempt negotiations with the invading cavalrymen—when that failed he participated in a daring rescue from the battlefield of a young man and relative who had been shot in both legs—yes, they both got back alive, because they’re badass).
