John Laurens was an American soldier in the Revolutionary War.  He was a total badass, and his bro Marquis de Lafayette once quipped, ”It was not his fault that he was not killed or wounded … he did every thing that was necessary to procure one or the other.”  Even though he was from South Carolina, a pretty notorious hotbed of racism, Laurens was remarkably undouchey and started a regiment composed of slaves who gained their freedom in return for serving in the army.

Other than that, he spent most of his time banging Alexander Hamilton(allegedly.. but let’s be real, they were in love).  Don’t believe it?  A Ham’s letters to Laurens included such gems as “Dear Laurens, it might be in my power, by action rather than words to convince you that I love you.” and “You should not have taken advantage of my sensibility to steal into my affections without my consent.”   I rest my case.
