This woman is the wonderful Miss Bazoline Estelle Usher (December 26, 1885 - February 8, 1992). She was the oldest of four, had two sisters and a brother. She was a teacher, principal (which was a pretty big deal for a woman at the time, especially an African-American woman!) and she became the Supervisor of Education for Minority Pupils in Atlanta, Georgia. She also led the group of about 25 women who created the first African-American Girl Scout troops in Atlanta.
She was on the cover of a book I have and that’s how I found out who she was. (This wasn’t the cover photo.) This photo used to scare me, because of the way she was sitting and looking, but now, I find the photo absolutely stunning! :)
