Robert Oppenheimer
Not only is he one of the fathers of the atomic bomb, but he is the man who thought, for just a couple seconds, that he set fire to the earth’s atmosphere and essentially destroyed the world.  Luckily he didn’t.  After the Manhattan Project, he went on to become the face of the United States Atomic Energy Commission.  Unfortunately, he was relieved from his duties during the second red scare because of his previous interests in the communist party before WWII.  Later he was vindicated by President Kennedy and received the Enrico Fermi Award.  Oppi is my ultimate history (and science) crush.
